I applied to Swim the Serpentine which is one of the London Classics. It is outdoor, in the Serpentine Lake, Hyde Park London.
It will be held on the 16th September 2023 and I will be in the 11:50am wave swimming 2 miles if you want to come and cheer me on. The event is managed by the London Marathon team and there will be lots to do in Hyde Park all day including street food stands - which is where you will find me after I've worked up an appetite!
I chose to fundraise for the Charlton Upbeats. The Charlton Upbeats is a football session bespoke for children and adults with down syndrome from the ages of 6 upwards.
First and foremost the session is to learn football, have fun and socially interact.
The older team members also compete in football tournaments and fixtures arranged by the Down Syndrome Association and other various pan-disability leagues.
The Charlton Upbeats are 9 times winners of the Down Syndrome Active football competition that is held annually over the country for all down syndrome active teams to compete in.
I met some of the team a couple of years ago and they do great work, the kids really love it! Charlton Athletic do an enormous amount of things within the community and this money will make a real difference.
Just Keep Swimming!
