Ned Tobin's Story
On Saturday the 20th April Ned will be joining the Charlton Upbeats on their annual 9-mile walk from their training ground in New Eltham to The Valley in Charlton, in a bid to raise awareness and vital funds for this amazing programme.Run by the Charlton Athletic Community Trust and funded entirely by donations, the Charlton Upbeats provides children and adults with Down's Syndrome the opportunity to play football in a fun, friendly, safe and inclusive environment. On Saturday the 20th April Ned will be joining the Charlton Upbeats on their annual 9-mile walk from their training ground in New Eltham to The Valley in Charlton, in a bid to raise awareness and vital funds for this amazing programme.
Run by the Charlton Athletic Community Trust and funded entirely by donations, the Charlton Upbeats provides children and adults with Down's Syndrome the opportunity to play football in a fun, friendly, safe and inclusive environment. There are league and cup opportunities, social events and leisure activities, and over the years the programme has evolved to include initiatives such as the Upbeats Kitchen at The Valley, where players can learn hospitality skills and gain paid employment on match days.
Ned joined the Upbeats over a year ago and the weekly sessions, led by the amazing team of coaches, have become a highlight of his week. They present Ned with a chance to be active and express himself playing a sport he loves, and to hone his social skills and make friends.
